Naked Wines winery visit @ Strathbogie Ranges

Crowd funded wine company Naked Wines Australia are an online wine company based in Sydney and work with independent winemakers across Australia.

Gastrology recently joined Naked Wines at one of their events, a lunch and winery visit to Sam Plunkett’s winery in the Strathbogie Ranges.

Sam was one of the first winemakers to partner with Naked Wines Australia, after his family business was unexpectedly bought out of the Plunkett Fowles wine brand.

We were thrilled by the winery visit which was an ‘access all areas’ day and included tasting a load of wines plus four different winemaker led master classes.
 “Inside Oak” with Adrian  Santolin

Our first master class was “Inside Oak” and led by Adrian Santolin. Adrian who took us through the difference between various types of oak and how they can make a wine taste amazing.
“What’s in My Wine” with Leighton Joy

Our next master class was “What’s in My Wine” and led by Leighton Joy. Leighton helped us all learn the truth about the additives and allergens in wine.
"Regional Tasting" with Jen Pfeiffer

Following on was a third master class in Regional Tasting led by Jen Pfeiffer. A delectable crash course on Victorian wines, we continued on with our tasting of different grapes from across Victoria while being guided on how to appreciate the differences between the grape varieties.
“How a Winery Works” with Sam Plunkett

Finally, our day concluded with a masterclass on “How a Winery Works” where Sam took us through all the interesting processes that happen to the grapes once they are picked.
All in all it was a wonderful chance to have an up-close and personal meet and greet with the winemakers who work with Naked Wines whilst learning a little, and drinking a lot and most of all having a heap of fun.
