About 3 years ago, the experience at Vue De Monde was amazing. The food was exceptional. Last year, however, the experience we had was completely different. The menu style has changed completely. In fact, the reason behind Vue De Monde's acclaim, Shannon Bennett, had left the scene in the sense that he no longer determined the menu and no longer acted as Head Chef behind the scenes. We would have no idea but for the fact that when E and I dined there, the head chef came out to greet us, and informed us of this new direction. While the famous Truffle Risotto, as always, was superb, the rest of the degustation was underwhelming.

Despite having little desire to return given our aforementioned experience, we returned a few weeks ago as the set lunch appeared to be good value at $70 per person for three courses including a glass of matching wine and side dishes for the table.
Every course was disappointing.
There was nothing particularly wrong with the food, but it was clear that Vue De Monde was no longer the restaurant it was 3 years ago. Everything was passable, but nothing blew us away. It is sad that the hype and novelty surrounding Vue De Monde has meant that the establishment will continue to bring in patrons regardless of the standard of the food.
We are both surprised that Vue De Monde has continued to maintain its status as a three-hat restaurant in the Melbourne dining scene.
